The Best Wedding I’ve Ever Been To

I’ve been to extravagant weddings, best friends’ weddings, and simple weddings - but for some reason this wedding (of one of Kevin’s friends) was the most fun I’ve ever been to. I think the following elements made it so great:

  • I wasn’t in the wedding so I didn’t really have any responsibilities.
  • The groom is the most thankful person I’ve ever met on the planet. He thanked me and Jess (the other girl in this picture) twice throughout the weekend and both of his thanks were completely heartfelt and articulate. We didn’t even really do anything to help (except inform the DJ that the bridal party had arrived).
  • The groom walked around and started giving $20 to everyone once the bar turned into a cash bar. Obviously we returned it to him during the money dance, but still - it was such a kind gesture.
  • The reception was in the dinosaur exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. The whole night we danced under a bronchiosaurus!!
  • The wedding party did a flash-mob of the Thriller dance.
  • The reception was 6 hours - it lasted until midnight. Most receptions end too early, so everyone hits a bar afterwards - but there was no need at this one.
  • THERE WAS A PHOTOBOOTH THAT ALSO LASTED ALL 6 HOURS.
  • The DJ was an actual DJ. He didn’t just play song after song….he meshed the songs together like they do on hip hop stations at night (err is that everywhere?) Also, he played pretty much every single Michael Jackson song and he played NEW Beyonce. A DJ after my own heart!
  • While the reception was still open bar, the catering staff would walk around with glasses of wine and offer them to you and then come around and keep refilling your glass.
  • The couple getting married is amazing and let us stay at their apartment the entire weekend. They even slept on an air mattress on the ground one night so that another couple (pictured above) could have their king sized bed.
  • I’m sure there were more reasons - but I think those are reasons enough.
